A little while longer

They were four ornaments hanging from our stairwell this holiday season… one for each of our children.  But, you only have three kids you might say.  Yes, but we are expecting our fourth.  We are waiting to be chosen to adopt a baby… and we have decided to wait with great anticipation.  Some may criticize us for being too vocal with/in our preparations for the baby- but this is how we are doing it.  Walking in faith and preparing our hearts and lives for this little one.

It is definitely a difficult time of waiting, but as a dear friend recently told me- don’t despise the journey, but embrace it…it is part of your story and God is with you in the pain (of waiting).  This Christmas our home was filled to the brim with company, which was wonderful.  It helped to have a full home and full hearts, as we recently found out we were not selected by another birthmother.

Two very special things that I received this Christmas… a swatch of fabric from the quilt my sister-in-law is making for our baby with a card reminding me that God will bring to completion what He has promised.  The other was a card from one of my sisters to her future niece/nephew, filled with sweet words of welcome and love.  Both of these things were so meaningful.  They acknowledged the life of this little one and the hope of them joining our family soon.

For all those who have struggled with infertility, miscarried, or are waiting to adopt- my heart goes out to you.  The waiting is hard.  But yes, God is with us in our waiting, in the hard times and good.  He sees and understands.  I am sure that what we are learning in the waiting is preparing us for much- especially to greatly enjoy and treasure this little one in deeper ways.

I was encouraged by Jeremiah 31:17 today, “And there is hope for your future, declares the Lord…”

Don’t give up- keep asking, keep seeking, keep trusting.  He is working, even when you may doubt.
I will end with lyrics from one of my favorite Selah songs, “Hold on a little while longer“.
