The Rain Comes

In 2010 God asked me to hand over the babies.  #4 and #5.  To open my hands and let Him hold this desire, this call; to give over control.  To let Him cultivate and keep the desire to adopt that He had birthed in me.  It was hard.  But, I knew I needed to let Him have them, have this.  He could do a much better job than me, of cultivating and keeping.  So, I opened hands, opened heart wide, and placed them in strong hands.

When the time is right, He will place the babies in arms, our arms; from His heart to ours, from His hand to ours.  I believe He will do, what I feel He has indeed said to us.

Prior to this experience, my friend, Laurie, and I were teaching a Precepts Bible Study on Genesis.  We had been reading this verse:

Genesis 2:15

” Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the
garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.”

We looked up the words cultivate and keep, to get a better understanding of what they meant.

Cultivate– to work, serve, to work for another, to be worked/tilled, serve another by labor

Keep- to keep (within bounds), guard, observe, give heed, have charge of, watch, watchman, preserve, protect, take care, keep watch, save life, wait for, reserve.
(definitions from blueletterbible.org, NASB version)
As I read over the definitions of “keep” again, I was struck.  Gratitude and awe flood at what God is doing right now with our baby….guarding, observing, having charge of, watching, preserving, protecting, taking care of, keeping watch over, saving life, reserving.
Oh God, forgive me for not fully realizing how well you are taking care of this life.  You are not stagnant. You are actively working and keeping and holding this life; until (and then still).  When the time comes to unite us in flesh, not just heart.  Until the labor is finished.  Then rain comes…the rain of joy, of union, of fruition.  When time has come for harvest; for garden work completed.

Jeremiah 5:24

They do not say in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the Lord
our God, who gives the rain in its season
, the autumn rain and the
spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest.’
Isaiah 55:8-11

8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
    declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 As the rain and the snow
    come down from heaven,

and do not return to it
    without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

The rain comes
It waters the dry.
It floods in and grows that which it touches.
It transforms; bringing deeper, richer colors.
It refreshes.

Rain comes from His hand.
At just the right time.
Beautiful time.

He cultivates and keeps.
He gives.
At just the right time.
Beautiful.

Is there something you need to hand over to God?

Are you clinging to something that He has asked you for?  Are you afraid to live with open hands?  Why?

Reread the Isaiah 55 passage.  What stands out to you?  Why?

Share (write down or tell someone) about a time when the Lord gave you something you had long been waiting for.  What did He teach you in the “waiting room”?  I’d love for you to share it here to encourage us.

Isaiah 55 – reminded that He accomplishes and He achieves all that He sets out to do. How many times do I fail to complete what I've dreamed and planned to do? Many, many times. The main difference is that I have no power to carry out what I want to do and He IS the power. This blog will be a wonderful work to look back on after it's rained. 🙂 Love you.
