Psalm 114: Don’t Run Away

Welcome to Day #17 of the Psalms Series!
All the guests on this series are fabulous, BUT, this one takes the cake for me. Sorry ladies, but I have a favorite. She is a delightful ten year old, who happens to be my daughter.:) You can imagine my joy in hosting Brooklyn here today.
Brooklyn is a spunky homeschooled ten year old who lives life loud. She is out-going, a huge Taylor Swift fan, a talented actress, and crazy about horses. She likes to read The Saddle Club books. Brooklyn loves her three brothers but they drive her crazy too. She is excited to attend horse camp this summer. She blogs over at Horse Love.

Take a few minutes to read Psalm 114.
“When Israel left Egypt,
when Jacob’s family left people who spoke a foreign language,
Judah became his holy place and Israel became his kingdom.
The Red Sea looked at this and ran away.
The Jordan River turned back.
The mountains jumped like rams.
The hills jumped like lambs.

Red Sea, why did you run away?
Jordan River, what made you turn back?
Mountains, what made you jump like rams?
Hills, what made you jump like lambs?
Earth, tremble in the presence of the Lord,
in the presence of the God of Jacob.
He turns a rock into a pool filled with water
and turns flint into a spring flowing with water.”

Psalm 114 says the Red Sea ran away.
Sometimes, in stress, I feel like running away.
It also says, the Jordan River turned back.
Sometimes, in stress, I feel like turning my back.
I don’t like being angry. I don’t like yelling. How can I avoid that?
“Yes Mom.”
“Yes Dad.”
“I’ll take the trash out.”
Instead of, “NO!” or slamming the door, crying or trying to run away.
Live a good life, choose God.
God’s power can help us through hard times. He helped Israel out of slavery. He can help you too.
Love,
Brooklyn
Deep Breaths:
1. Reread Psalm 114 and record your response to it in your journal.
2. When hard times come, are you tempted to flee, to run away? Are you tempted to turn your back? Ask God for a specific scripture to memorize to help you stay grounded in hard times.
3. In Psalm 114:8 it says that God “turns a rock into a pool filled with water and turns flint into a spring flowing with water.” He can take the hard and turn it into something life-giving. How does this verse comfort you in light of His abilities and power?

🙂 Keep writing, Brooklyn – search the Scriptures and keep your eyes open to lessons God has for you to learn. 🙂 Writing is a gift – never shy back from using it for Him. <3

    God's blessings,

Brooklyn – I love to read your blogs! Thank you for teaching us about obeying and fleeing stress instead of God. Sometimes we make our own lives harder. This gave me another way to pray for some things! See you at the ranch!

Thank you Brooklyn for sharing your thoughts over this verse. It has reminded me to reread the storie about Jozua and the great things God has done in his life. If i pray and if i keep believing than i'm sure that God will do great things in my life too. He has already done that, but i need it to be reminded not to take that for granted. Thank you so much for pointing that out. Blessings for you. Hope you will keep on writing. Your good at it.

    Blessings. Thea
