Still Seek Him

On church signs, in December, you may see the phrase, “Wise men still seek Him”.  I really like that reminder.  It causes us to ask…am I seeking Him?  If so, then I am wise because of it.  The wise men, in the Bible, set off on a journey- a mission of discovery and wonder.  Do I approach faith like them?  With determination?  Or am I quick to doubt?  To be swayed by popular majority or reasonable arguments?  Where do I go to seek Him?  Do I devour His Word?  Do I linger in His presence?  Do I offer valuable gifts to Him- like time, humility, and belief?

Dear LORD, Help us to seek You each day….especially during this season of advent.  Forgive us for our pride, busyness, and apathy.  Help us to cherish the gift of salvation, to not make light of Your riveting sacrifice, Your encompassing grace, Your incomparable wisdom.  God, thank You for creating us- for breathing life into us.  Jesus, thank You for calling us to Yourself- beckoning us to come and taste real life- the gift of fellowship restored with the Father.  Holy Spirit, thank You for living in us- for Your continual sanctifying work- for being our Counselor, Companion, and Courage.  Help us to be wise, by seeking You…”You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV).

“…they (the wise men) went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.  When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.  On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.  Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and myrrh (Matthew 2:9-11).
