Psalm 108: Harmony of Grace

Welcome to Day #12 of the Psalms Series!
Jamie is a fellow homeschooling mama. It has been a blessing getting to know her through Lisa Jo’s Five Minute Friday fun and writing letters through our snail mail group too. Enjoy these thoughtful insights from Jamie today.
Jamie writes honestly, usually in fragments, about her
imperfect life that’s covered in grace. She lives on the edge of balance,
managing her roles of working mom, homeschooling mom, wife, blogger and
volunteer. Jamie is energized by coffee, Jesus and real relationship. She blogs over at Reflected Me.

Read Psalm 108

“My heart is steadfast, O God;  I will sing and make music with all my soul.” – Psalm 108:1

Were there a visible course marked out for me, a line in the sand begging for my footprints,
would my feet leave a faithful indention?

When I’m lead to a place of self-sacrifice, required to lay down my will,
When I’m pulled into a place that hurts, where I’m stretched and my feet are left bleeding,
When I experience joy and comfort but am driven to move beyond it,
When I am called to give but want to hold tightly,
Would I follow the course?

Feet walking
Heart beating, bleeding
Do my feet follow?

Were there a song written for me to sing, a hymn of awakening, praise and love,
could I sing with my life?

When I’m unable to feel, and emotionless
When I’m tied in knots of anger and misunderstanding,
When I’m content, and happy
When I’m seeking, unsure, or in need
Could I sing?

Soul harmonizing
Emotions reeling or lacking
Do I worship?

“And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ…will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast” –1 Peter 5:10

When this temporary heart bleeds dry of me
Saturated in grace
Beating the rhythm of eternity

I can follow

Fixed and secure in who He is
Despite circumstance or emotion

Restored

Awakened to His goodness, His love, His faithfulness, His intercession
My soul will sing
Worshiping with every act

Feet walking
Heart beating
Soul harmonizing

One Step Forward,
Jamie

Deep Breaths:

1. Reread Psalm 108. Repetition helps you remember. As you reread this passage ask God to help you apply what He reveals.

2. Pick out your favorite lines from this reflective poem. Consider doodling or painting the lines on a fresh piece of paper. Ponder these lines and work them into your heart as you offer thanks to Him through art. We’d love to see what you come up with. Add your photo and #psalmsseries on instragram with your one-of-a-kind, uniquely-you creation for the Creator.

3. Consider writing your own poem based on Psalm 108 or sing one of your favorite praise songs at the top of your lungs to this praise-worthy God; the One and Only.

Jamie – beautiful words! I can so relate: "Do I worship?" Because one moment I do, the next I am overwhelmed by emotion and I forget so easily…"Fixed and secure in who He is/Despite circumstance or emotion/Restored" So thankful for these words today.

Good morning Kristen! It's a daily struggle between worship and selfishness it seems, but the best realization of all is that despite me God is always good and the more of Him I seek the easier it is to let go of me and truly worship Him! Happy Saturday

Jamie – David's resolve to praise God while in need of deliverance helps us gain perspective on whatever our circumstances. Beautiful poetry in your words.

I took up the challenge in prompt #3 above with a haiku:
I enjoy writing Haiku out of scripture:

    His heart was steadfast
    His body a melody
    Be exalted O God

"Could I sing with my life?" I love that. Such a beautiful picture of true, all-of-me worship. I appreciate your poetry, and your beautiful perspective of Psalm 108! Blessings to you!
